Each fall, Thanksgiving marks the start of the holidays and the beginning of the end to another year. As we move into the season with a heart of gratitude, we must also be mindful of how many families across the East Bay are working hard and still coming up short.
Families across California are struggling with the astronomical cost of housing. The market has failed us and is pushing families to leave the Golden State in droves every day.
But you know this. And you know we’re doing something about it. East Bay for Everyone is on a mission to to secure housing as a human right by employing every means available to us. That includes prioritizing our natural resources, maximizing urban density, defending and improving public transit, building more housing as infrastructure instead of investment, and protecting existing residents from displacement.
We’ve had a lot of success this year:
- Successfully stopped a downzoning in West Berkeley
- Fought for the approval of the MacArthur Mammoth in Temescal
- Hosted YIMBYTown2017
And we’re just getting started:
- #UpzoneRockridge canvasing, education, and organizing for 700 homes at the California College of Arts campus
- Increased density and affordability in exclusionary suburbs around BART stations
- Election 2018 panels, events, endorsements, and more!
But none of this can happen without your help.
After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday — a nation-wide day of charitable donations to your favorite non-profit organizations. And lets be honest, we all know who your favorite housing abundancy organization is: East Bay for Everyone! For each $1 you donate, we are able to match it and double your money.
A generous group of donors have pledged $1,500 in matching donations for Giving Tuesday. That means for every $1 you donate today, it’ll get a ministerial spot upzoning and turn into $2! Our goal for today is $3,000 and every dollar counts.
As the beginning of the end of the year approaches, we are working hard on preparations for a new wave of mobilizations and housing advocacy. It’s important that we get this right and we need your help and resources to do it.
Let’s house the East Bay. Pitch in what you can today, and let’s change some lives.
