East Bay for Everyone (EB4E) is a membership organization dedicated to building just cities through land use, housing and mobility policies. EB4E is proud to support the following candidates and measures for the November 5, 2024 election.

Oakland Mayoral Recall

We urge Oaklanders to vote no on the recall of Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao. On EB4E’s core issues Thao has been a staunch supporter of our goals. As councilperson for D4 district Thao was supportive of land use changes to bring housing to affluent hillside district. As mayor Oakland she supported the October 2023 general plan updates, which allowed plexes throughout the city, upzoned Rockridge and other high resource areas and created an affordable housing overlay. Thao has also been a supporter of mobility policies, including complete streets and infrastructure investment, necessary to create options for all Oaklanders to get around without a car.

Oakland At Large

We recommend ranking Shawn Danino #1 for his stellar housing, mobility and land use platform. Shawn’s work with the state Department of Housing and Community Development displays a knack for working to improve housing production and protections for existing tenants. We also appreciate his focus on streamlining approval of street safety and transit projects to reduce the discretionary delays and cost escalations City Council imposes on OakDOT projects.

For #2 spot in this race we support Charlene Wang who has a strong focus on welcoming more housing, increasing pedestrian safety and economic development for Oakland’s neighborhoods.

Rowena Brown is our #3 choice for the at-large seat. Brown wants to increase housing production, especially low-income housing options. While we do not agree on the relative priority or efficacy of some policy measures in her platform, we believe she would be a great advocate for subsidized housing and mobility on council.

Oakland D1

We recommend Zac Unger for Oakland D1. Zac has been a longtime housing supporter in North Oakland, including expressing support for land use changes in Rockridge championed by EB4E as part of the General Plan Update Phase 1 in October 2023. We hope Zac’s experience as a labor leader representing firefighters can help navigate the challenges of single-stair reform and bike lane standards in Oakland.

Oakland D3

For Oakland D3, which includes downtown Oakland and West Oakland, we support Warren Logan. Warren is a clear-throated supporter for more housing, better mobility infrastructure and providing better service delivery to city residents and businesses. We think his prior experience in coordinating policy in the mayor’s office will prove invaluable for navigating the city’s bureaucracy. We are especially heartened by his emphasis on reducing discretionary process council approvals for paving contracts, which is seriously undermining the ability of OakDOT to timely and cost effectively deliver grant and Measure U-funded street safety projects.

Emeryville

We recommend Courtney Welch, Matthew Solomon, and Sam Gould for Emeryville City Council. Courtney is an advocate for building more housing, allocating greater funding to subsidized housing, and improving transit as a member of City Council. Residents should re-elect Courtney. Matthew Solomon served on the Housing and Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committees where he demonstrated his commitment to more housing and safer streets for people walking and biking. Sam Gould is also committed to a denser Emeryville with better transit connections to destinations around the Bay.

El Cerrito

We recommend Rebecca Saltzman for El Cerrito City Council. Rebecca’s tenure as a BART board member is a stellar record of support for better transit, transit-oriented housing and better mobility and parking policy. We have been excited to see all the ways she has proposed to improve the planning and land use codes in El Cerrito.

San Leandro

We recommend Dylan Boldt for District 6 of San Leandro City Council. Dylan is a supporter of more housing in his district when the question is immediate, as well as broader upzoning measures, and his background in the construction trades makes him an important and valuable voice in the coalition for abundance.

Berkeley D2

We recommend Terry Taplin for Berkeley D2. Terry has been a reliable supporter of housing and land use changes while on council. He also has supported expanding the San Pablo Avenue complete streets project for bike and bus lanes into the City of Berkeley. Finally we appreciate Terry’s leadership on social housing – obtaining city backing for a social housing implementation study for the City of Berkeley.

Berkeley D5

We recommend Todd Andrew for Berkeley D5. He is a long time supporter of more inclusive land use policies in this affluent district.

Berkeley D6

We recommend Brent Blackaby for Berkeley D6. His support for progressive mobility and housing policies are notable. We also appreciate his welcoming attitude, which would be an asset on the Berkeley City Council.

Berkeley Measure FF

Measure FF is a crucial and needed investment in safe streets in Berkeley. We strongly recommend yes. We urge voters to reject the competing paving measure EE, which is drafted to reduce pedestrian and bike safety projects.

Berkeley Measure BB

We support Measure BB, which strengthens tenant protections.

Berkeley Measure CC

We urge a no vote for this landlord lobby-written measure.
